“We want to encourage people in a fun way to be proactive about their health and know where to go for care when they need it,” said Simone Lampkin, Mercy Cancer Center director and event organizer. “This event offers our community a chance to learn more about how to take care of themselves and how Mercy can help through personalized care right here in their hometown.”
The Mercy Southeast Community Health Event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Mercy Cancer Center – Cape Girardeau, 789 S. Mount Auburn Road.
“We had so much fun with this event last year, and we knew we had to bring it back and make it even better with more opportunities for screenings and demonstrations,” Lampkin said. “Catching health concerns early saves lives and improves quality of life, and it often starts with a routine checkup. It’s a small step today that can have a big impact on your future.”
The Cape Girardeau Fire Department will be on-site to talk fire safety and show off their fire trucks, and Southeast Missouri Food Bank will share resources on nutritional assistance and education.
The event includes face painting, festive snacks, healthy food truck options, a bounce house, and even an inflatable colon and lung that kids can walk through and learn from.
The free indoor/outdoor event will take place rain or shine. Residents of all ages from all parts of the region are welcome.
