There are two types of heart disease in children: congenital and acquired. Children with congenital heart disease are born with their defect. Acquired heart disease develops sometime during childhood.

Mercy’s pediatric cardiologists are board certified in their specialty and are fellows of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Cardiology. They’ll guide you and your child through the best treatment for your child’s health condition.

Mercy Clinic Children's Heart Center offers a full range of pediatric heart care services including:

  • Management of congenital heart disease
  • Prenatal diagnosis of heart disease
  • Evaluation and treatment of arrhythmias (including catheter ablation)
  • Coronary artery disease
  • Lipid abnormalities (example: hypercholesterolemia)
  • Hypertension
  • Testing such as ECG (electrocardiograms), 24-hour Holter monitoring, echocardiography, electrophysiology studies and exercise stress testing
  • Echo Lab, which is accredited by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL)

Whatever type of heart treatment your child may need, feel free to bring your questions to our pediatric experts. The sooner you’re informed about the process, the better you can tackle any questions your child has.
