COPD Education Center

Mercy's COPD Education Center in Washington, Mo. is now open. The center is conveniently located at Mercy Medical Building South (by the Sleep Lab). One-hour appointments are available for patients with COPD Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. There is no cost for this service.

During the appointment, a respiratory therapist works with patients to:

  • Provide COPD education
  • Assess immunization status
  • Engage the patient in a smoking cessation program
  • Perform medication reconciliation and discuss the importance of adherence
  • Teach the correct use of inhalers and nebulizers
  • Complete manufacturer assistance forms if the patient has trouble affording medications
  • Assess whether the patient is a candidate for pulmonary rehab, nutritional counseling or care management
  • CPAP equipment evaluation/education
