Volunteer Program

Volunteer

Volunteers are valuable to the Mercy Hospital South community, assisting patients, patients' families and friends and employees. Hundreds of junior and adult volunteers offer their time, energy and talent to many areas of Mercy Hospital South from the gift shop and information desk to the clinical areas.

Men and women who are willing to serve are all welcome as volunteers. Teens and young adults (14 and older) may serve as junior volunteers during the Summer Volunteer Program.

When you agree to volunteer at Mercy Hospital South, you are given a role that best meets our current needs, and that fits with your interests and abilities. For example, some positions may require more walking or standing, while others do not. Some positions may require more interaction with patients, while others may require more technical skills.

Each new volunteer completes an application and attends a general orientation class. Volunteers have personal interviews and are given specific training in the appropriate departments. There is flexibility in the days, hours and frequency that you can contribute.

Volunteer opportunities are available in a variety of areas:

  • Transporting patients
  • Helping visitors at information desks
