How to Prepare for Your Procedure
Preparing carefully helps make your procedure as safe, accurate, and effective as possible. Your care team will provide instructions specific to your procedure, including what to eat and drink, which medications to take or hold, and when to arrive.
Please follow your preparation instructions exactly. For colonoscopy, completing the full bowel preparation is especially important so your doctor can clearly examine the colon and identify polyps or other concerns. If you have questions about your instructions, contact your care team before the day of your procedure.
Timing varies by procedure, preparation, findings and recovery. Your Mercy scheduling or clinical team can provide specific expectation for your exact procedure.
If your procedure involves sedation or medication that affects alertness, you may need to arrange for someone to drive you home. It’s a good idea to confirm transportation details with your care team before any procedure.
Don’t stop taking prescription medications on your own without talking to your doctor. Ask specifically about blood thinners, diabetes medications, GLP-1 medicines, supplements and any other medications to prepare for your procedure.
