Most of the 40 million Americans who suffer some kind of sleep disorder have never had their disorder diagnosed. And so they suffer from fatigue, cognitive impairment, and a reduced quality of life in general. Plus, they’re more at risk for problems like heart attack, stroke, obesity and depression. The Mercy South Sleep Center, accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, can help.

Our expert team includes specially trained physicians and technologists who diagnose and treat a variety of sleep disorders, including sleep apnea and insomnia.

Our fully equipped center accommodates patients in private rooms for monitored sleep studies. Based on the results of a study, treatment for a specific disorder may be prescribed. For example, a patient with sleep apnea may be prescribed a CPAP device that blows air into the nasal passages to keep the airway open during sleep.

We accept patients referred by a physician as well as self-referred patients.

The Evaluation

After our staff collects a patient’s sleep habits and health history, they may, in consultation with the Sleep Center physician, recommend a sleep study called a polysomnogram: an overnight test to monitor sleep patterns, breathing and other functions.

Treatment Options

Treatments can vary depending on the diagnosis. Some of the most common, besides the CPAP mentioned earlier, include surgery, weight loss, a change of sleeping position, use of dental appliances and medication.
