What Is Botox?

Botox is an FDA-approved, non-surgical treatment often used for facial rejuvenation. Botox injections work by blocking the nerve signals that tell muscles to tighten. Relaxing these muscles helps smooth fine lines such as “crow’s feet” around the eyes, frown lines between the eyes, forehead lines and wrinkles at the corners of the mouth. Botox can also improve the overall appearance of the skin by creating a smoother, refreshed complexion.

Is Botox Right for You?

If you’re over 18, in overall good health, and you feel that wrinkles and facial lines impact your quality of life, you may be a candidate for botox injections. You should not get botox if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have drooping eyelids
  • Have weak facial muscles
  • Have neuromuscular disease

A Mercy cosmetic surgery specialist can help determine whether botox will be safe and effective for you.
