Every baby is a beautiful gift, and most are born healthy. Sometimes, though, a newborn has a serious medical condition, or is born so prematurely that they need highly specialized care. When this happens, Mercy Kids is ready.

Our neonatology department includes experienced physician specialists, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists and other specialists who care for critically ill newborns. These tiny patients receive expert, 24/7 attention in our state-of-the-art neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). We combine high-tech care in a comforting, family-friendly environment that allows parents to stay with their babies.

In addition to caring for high-risk expectant moms, many Mercy locations have board-certified neonatologists that care for newborns with conditions including:

  • Congenital heart defects
  • Gastroschisis
  • Omphalocele
  • Genetic syndromes
  • Congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation (CCAM)
  • Congenital pulmonary airway malformation (CPAM)
  • Congenital diaphragmatic hernia
