At Mercy, we see every person as a reflection of God’s image ― worthy of dignity, compassion and belonging. We welcome all with open hearts and minds, honoring the unique perspectives, backgrounds and experiences that shape who we are.

Rooted in a nearly 200-year legacy of serving those most in need, our ministry remains steadfast in its commitment to care for everyone — regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, age, marital status, sexual orientation, nationality, education, cultural background, disability or socioeconomic status.

Our Commitment to Community

We believe everyone deserves equitable access to opportunity, care and connection. We recognize that life experiences shape each person’s journey, and we are called to walk alongside those who face barriers. Inspired by Catholic Social Teaching, we work to uplift our communities and foster a sense of solidarity in our shared humanity.

Caregiving Is More Than a Job ― It’s a Calling

At Mercy, your gifts have purpose. Whether you’re at the bedside, behind the scenes or leading others, you’re part of a mission that’s bigger than any one role. Here, faith and compassion guide our work, and your career becomes a reflection of your values.

Every Mercy caregiver is part of a sacred mission to serve with dignity, empathy and excellence. From preparing meals to performing the most advanced surgical procedures, every action contributes to something meaningful.

The Mercy Caregiver Experience

We’ve shaped our culture around three pillars that define what it means to grow and thrive at Mercy:

  1. Purpose in Every Role
Every action is part of a shared mission, where faith, compassion and service come together to make a difference.
  2. A Community That Cares
You belong to a team that sees your worth and dignifies your whole self ― professionally, emotionally and spiritually.
  3. Growth That’s Grounded
Your development is guided by purpose. Whether you’re learning new skills or stepping into leadership, your path is supported and aligned with who you’re called to be.

Inclusive Councils

At Mercy, our inclusive councils are caregiver-led and help shape a welcoming and supportive workplace culture. These teams build community, foster connection and create space for every voice to be heard.

Our Disability Resources Council (DRC) is a leading example — advocating for caregivers and patients with disabilities through education, partnerships and inclusive care initiatives. Explore Mercy’s disability inclusion efforts here.

Inclusive Talent Pipelines

At Mercy, our inclusive talent pipelines are designed to cultivate future health care leaders by providing meaningful, hands-on experiences for students of all abilities and backgrounds. These programs reflect our commitment to creating engaging pathways to employment and fostering a culture of belonging.

Key initiatives include the following:

  • Pathway to Employment: This training program for high school students with disabilities prepares them for paid employment through job coaching and department-based skill development.
  • Rotational Leadership Academy (RLA) and Administrative Leadership Academy (ALA): These structured development programs for emerging and experienced professionals are focused on leadership growth and career advancement.
  • St. Louis Internship Program (SLIP): This transformative summer initiative connects high school students with immersive, hands-on experiences across Mercy. In collaboration with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater St. Louis, SLIP is more than a summer job ― it’s a gateway to professional growth, mentorship and community engagement.
  • Students Observing Area Resources (SOAR): SOAR provides shadowing experiences to help students explore health care careers and build professional networks.
  • Summer Work Experience (SWE): Supported by Mercy caregivers and community rehabilitation providers, this six-week program for students with disabilities helps them gain vocational skills and prepare for competitive employment.

These initiatives are more than programs — they are bridges to opportunity, inclusion and long-term success at Mercy.

Our Commitment to You

From your first day at Mercy to your next big step, we believe in who you are and who you’re becoming. We support your well-being in mind, body and spirit, offering meaningful growth opportunities through mentorship, education and purpose-driven work.
