Mercy Awarded for IT Excellence

June 1, 2016

Mercy’s use of technology is “raising the bar” again, according to an IT industry leader. CIO magazine, powered by Industrial Distribution Group (IDG), has chosen Mercy Technology Services (MTS) as a recipient of the 2016 CIO 100.

The 29th annual award program recognizes organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology (IT).

"Delivering innovation and business value are top priorities for CIOs everywhere, and our CIO 100 awards program celebrates the leading IT organizations that excel at both," said Maryfran Johnson, Editor in Chief of CIO Events. "Our 2016 winners are raising the bar even higher this year with their outstanding work in digital transformation, customer focus and IT-business collaboration."

Mercy leveraged its experience, existing resources and market opportunities with electronic health records (EHR) and data capabilities to turn what used to be a back office function into a catalyst for competitive advantage for its own system and others.

Using the experience of 45 hospital installations and a decade of EHR optimization, Mercy became the nation’s first provider to be accredited by Epic (its EHR vendor) to offer a full suite of services to other hospitals.

“Our key driver is a mission of excellent care,” said Gil Hoffman, chief information officer at Mercy. “By sharing lessons learned and providing powerful clinical tools for physicians and patients who wouldn’t otherwise have access, we extend Mercy’s mission, creating new models of care beyond our walls for systemic change.”

Coverage of the 2016 CIO 100 Awards will be available online at CIO.com on August 1, 2016 and in the August issue of CIO's digital magazine.

Mercy, named one of the top five large U.S. health systems in 2017 by Truven, an IBM Watson Health company, serves millions annually. Mercy includes 44 acute care and specialty (heart, children’s, orthopedic and rehab) hospitals, more than 700 physician practices and outpatient facilities, 40,000 co-workers and more than 2,000 Mercy Clinic physicians in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. Mercy also has outreach ministries in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.

MTS provides and manages technology solutions for Mercy, the nation’s first health care provider accredited by Epic, to offer a full suite of electronic health record solutions to other hospitals, including Epic in the cloud, implementation and optimization. MTS’ award-winning data analytics integrate care delivery, manage costs and support a model of care that keeps patients healthier and out of the hospital. Visit mercytechnology.net.
