Dreamers Make a Mark on Health Care

March 15, 2018

Common themes emerged when Catholic Health World spoke to undocumented immigrants who are protected under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, also known as DACA. These “Dreamers” make substantial contributions to the communities where they live and to Catholic health care, whose leadership has urged President Donald Trump to renew the DACA program.

Among the Dreamers the reporters interviewed was 27-year-old Yuri Osornio, a medical interpreter at Mercy Clinic Family Medicine and Obstetrics in Rogers, Arkansas. Brought to the U.S. as a toddler, she prays with her three children to be able to stay in this country to fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse.

Mercy is grateful to Yuri and other Dreamers across our health care system for their important contributions to the care of our patients.
