RN Dawn Day Wins DAISY Award

June 11, 2019

Springfield RN, Dawn Day is described by her nominator as the perfect balance of warmth and professionalism when helping victims of sexual assault. On May 9, she was honored with the DAISY Award for her servant attitude when helping patients. Her nominator wrote:

Dawn's care of patients who are rape victims is exemplary. As a trauma therapist, I am aware of the needs of patients who are in the middle of crises and Dawn is the perfect balance of warmth and professionalism. She does her job with confidence while making the patient feel safe and protected. That is no easy task. Her head and her heart are both in the right place and that is rare. She keeps appropriate boundaries while doing all she can within those boundaries to protect and also empower her patients.

She is very knowledgeable about her field and educates her patients on policy updates and their rights as victims and citizens. Dawn sees that patients might not make rational decisions at the time immediately following an assault because they are too focused on the emotion of the incident. She validates the patient and helps them understand that they have a fair shot at prosecuting the perpetrator, but reminds them that it is 100% their choice. She creates empowered survivors from trauma victims. She is a hero who doesn't pressure her patients but pushes them to see how strong they really are. Dawn deserves acknowledgment for both her skill and her servant attitude.
