Mercy leaders celebrated a new primary care clinic location in Poteau by holding a groundbreaking on Feb. 5.
The new Mercy Clinic Primary Care – Poteau will be at 2806 N. Broadway St. and will replace the current location at 2110 N. Broadway. Dr. Arthur Pearson III and Timothy Olive, APN, will continue to provide care for Mercy patients at the new location, which is expected to open later this year.
“I was really excited when we had the chance to expand, because we’ve needed it for a while,” said Dr. Pearson, a native of Gore. “I don’t think anybody expected us to be this busy when we came in here, but it just continues to grow. It’s needed – Eastern Oklahoma is underserved in the medical community.”
Around 5,500 new patients have been seen at Mercy Clinic Primary Care – Poteau since it opened in 2016, with about 37,000 individual patient visits. Patients can be seen for treatment of minor illnesses and injuries; diagnosis and treatment of adult conditions; flu shots and other immunizations; general medical evaluations and wellness exams; and sports and occupational physicals. The new clinic will provide expanded services, including X-rays.
“This is going to be a game-changer for this area,” Dr. Pearson said. “Bringing these services here, that’s a big deal for us and for our patients in Poteau.”
Dr. David Hunton, president of Mercy Clinic Fort Smith, recalled the 2016 opening of Mercy Clinic Primary Care – Poteau at its current location and said he looks forward to serving the community at the new clinic.
“We expected big things from Dr. Pearson and Tim and indeed have gotten them as time has gone on,” Dr. Hunton said. “They’ve been two of our most productive physicians and providers and have just done a great job.”
Construction on the 5,100-square-foot facility is being managed by Snyder Construction Group of Ozark, Mo.
