HEALDTON, Okla. – Mercy Hospital Healdton has been named one of the country’s top 20 critical access hospitals for quality by the National Rural Health Association (NRHA), a recognition that places the hospital among an elite group of rural health care providers across the U.S.

The award is based on the results of the The Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX, which evaluates rural hospitals nationwide on eight key performance indicators: inpatient market share, outpatient market share, quality, outcomes, patient perspective, cost, charge and finance.
“This recognition is truly a testament to the hard work by all of our caregivers,” said Heather Chatham, Mercy Hospital Healdton administrator. “We know the important role we play in this community and how people depend on us. It’s an honor to take care of our neighbors, and being one of the nation’s best critical access hospitals is just a result of how seriously we take our work.”
Mercy Hospital Healdton was selected from The Chartis Center for Rural Health’s list of the top 100 community access hospitals for 2025.
The top 20 designation highlights hospitals that are setting the standard for excellence in rural health care delivery. An awards ceremony honoring Mercy Hospital Healdton and others on the list will be held at the NRHA’s Critical Access Hospital Conference in September in Kansas City, Missouri.
“NRHA is committed to ensuring our members have the best information to manage their hospitals,” said Brock Slabach, NRHA chief operations officer. “We’re pleased to recognize the accomplishments of these rural hospitals.”
Other Mercy hospitals in Oklahoma earning the recognition are in Kingfisher, Logan County and Tishomingo.
Mercy Hospital Healdton is a 22-bed hospital with acute care and swing bed (skilled care) services, along with inpatient and outpatient therapy, infusion services, emergency care and other treatments.
