Epic, MyMercy to Improve Scheduling, Billing Processes for Pittsburg Patients, Wherever Care is Provided

July 25, 2025

To create a seamless, integrated patient experience, Mercy Pittsburg will be implementing the Epic electronic health record and MyMercy patient information and scheduling portal in late August.

Once in place, Mercy patients in the Pittsburg community will have a single, comprehensive electronic health record to provide more coordinated care, and scheduling issues will also be a thing of the past.

Mercy Pittsburg caregivers are in the process of learning and training on Epic to be ready to make the switch on Aug. 18, which is also when Mercy Pittsburg will be brought into Mercy's in-house scheduling and billing systems. We will no longer use the third-party system that we know frustrated patients, instead giving them the option to schedule appointments and review bills through MyMercy, or by reaching a Mercy co-worker by phone, who will be able to access Epic for any assistance that's needed.

Mercy Hospital Pittsburg, Mercy clinics and all Mercy services and locations in the Pittsburg community will transition to Epic, software designed to provide high-quality, personalized results for both patients and Mercy caregivers. This state-of-the-art system provides one patient health record available to all Mercy providers at all locations across the system, spanning Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Arkansas.

“We believe all of these changes are going to be hugely beneficial to our patients,” said David Smith, administrator of Mercy Hospital Pittsburg. “Between having access to all medical records at any facility within Mercy's footprint, and bringing scheduling in-house, we're confident that this will remove barriers to care, and make it easier for our caregivers and patients alike.”

Epic and MyMercy are set up to allow patients to access the first available services within the Mercy system. For example, if a patient’s doctor orders an MRI, the patient will be able to request the closest location to them or the one that has the earliest appointment available for needed care.

“Transitioning to a new electronic health record is a massive undertaking,” Smith said. “For several months, our Mercy Pittsburg caregivers spent countless hours ensuring we were ready to make this transition smoothly. The work has been going on longer than I’ve been in place in this role, but I still couldn’t be prouder of the effort our team has put in to help us fulfill our promise to improve access and provide quality care right here where it’s needed.”

All Mercy services and locations can now be found in one online location: mercy.net, a user-friendly online experience for finding services, doctors, locations and online scheduling throughout southeast Kansas and the entire Mercy system.

Patients will also find advantages of MyMercy, including a free, easy-to-use app that allows anyone – not just Mercy patients – to manage their health online via phone or tablet. Benefits include:

·       Viewing future health summaries

·       Tracking and reviewing test results

·       Messaging care teams
