Patients in Southeast Missouri now have expanded access to heart care with Mercy Southeast’s new advanced practice provider.
Alli Riley, family nurse practitioner, will work alongside Dr. Steven Carr and a large, experienced group of cardiologists providing advanced heart care at Mercy Clinic Heart and Vascular – Broadview, 371 S. Broadview St., Cape Girardeau. With a focus on prevention and coordination of care locally, Mercy’s clinicians at this facility provide a full range of heart care, including:
- Cardiac testing and diagnosis
- Treatment of heart conditions, such as coronary artery disease and congestive heart failure
- Preventive heart care
- Consultations
“I’m looking forward to following patients through their care journey from acute events to long-term care management and building relationships with them along the way,” Riley said. “This role is really going to enable me to apply my nursing experience across a broader range in both the outpatient and hospital settings and I’m excited to learn from this highly skilled cardiology team.”
Born and raised in the Cape Girardeau and Jackson area, Riley earned an associate degree in nursing from Mercy’s Southeast Missouri Hospital College of Nursing and Health Sciences. She then earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Southeast Missouri State University and later a master’s degree in nursing also from Southeast Missouri State University to become a nurse practitioner.
While in nursing school, Riley began caring for patients at Mercy Southeast in 2013 as a certified nursing assistant. She worked her way up serving in various roles before becoming a registered nurse in the cardiothoracic unit in 2016. She’s also worked in the intensive care unit and as the ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and structural heart program coordinator at the hospital, leading and optimizing protocols to ensure rapid identification, triage and treatment for a certain type of heart attack patients.
“I wanted to play a larger role in the decision-making process and the care for patients across the full spectrum of their health,” Riley said of her decision to become a nurse practitioner. “I wanted to be able to guide them from emergencies through recovery and preventative care, helping them live healthier lives and reducing their risk of future complications.”
Riley is married with two children and two dogs that all keep her busy. She enjoys spending time outdoors, particularly on the lake, boating and fishing.
