October 15, 2025

The Mercy South cardiac electrophysiologi team is expanding with the addition of Dr. Caleb Norton. Dr. Norton joins Drs. Rajiv Handa, Milan Kahanda and Peter Rothstein, nurse practitioners Katie Arter, Nicole Burdge, Emily Peters, Michelle Schuler and Elaine Welch, and physician assistants Hannah Pfneisel and Kassandra Williams serving patients with Mercy Clinic Heart and Vascular Electrophysiology – 10012 Kennerly.

You can get to know Dr. Norton in his own words with this Q&A:

Why did you get into health care? What drew you to cardiac electrophysiology?

I was drawn to medicine in high school and college. I enjoyed my biology, anatomy and physiology courses, plus I like working with people. I was introduced to electrophysiology during medical school and was immediately interested. It is such a dynamic field with rapidly expanding technology and advancement. It also involves complex heart physiology, which I really enjoy. Furthermore, it takes good communication skills to explain to patients and families what is going on with their heart health and how it can be treated.

Why did you choose to join Mercy South?

I was drawn to Mercy South because the outstanding cardiology and electrophysiology team. Since joining the team, I quickly saw how everybody strives to provide the best care for patients in a collegial environment.

Do you mind sharing a little about your personal life?

I grew up in Rochester, Michigan, which is a suburb of Detroit. I've been in St. Louis for about 5 years now as I completed my cardiology and electrophysiology fellowship at Washington University. I've really enjoyed living in St. Louis; we have an awesome restaurant scene here. I’m married to a pulmonologist. We have 2 cats, and my wife is pregnant with our first child who will be joining us in just a couple of months!
