Patients in need of surgical care for heart or chest conditions now have expanded access with Mercy Southeast’s newest advanced practice provider.
Lindsey Baumhoer, nurse practitioner, joins Dr. Russell McElveen and a talented team of clinicians at Mercy Clinic Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery – Broadway, 1723 Broadway, Suite 210, in Cape Girardeau. The clinic’s surgical teams perform a full range of cardiovascular and thoracic procedures to treat conditions in the heart, lungs, esophagus, trachea and aorta.
“I’ve worked with this team periodically before, and I really enjoyed it,” Baumhoer said of why she came to Mercy Southeast. “The surgeon was great to work with, the morale was very positive, and the team focused on helping each other and taking great care of patients. It was a refreshing environment.”
Baumhoer has previously cared for patients in a cardiac stepdown unit: in the operating room on the heart team as a circulator, scrub nurse and first assistant; and as a nurse practitioner with a cardiothoracic and vascular surgery clinic.
“I’ve spent the last three and a half years traveling to much larger facilities, including The University of Tennessee Medical Center and Saint Louis University Hospital to further my knowledge in the field about circulatory mechanical support as well as many complex cardiovascular surgical procedures,” she said.
Baumhoer was born at Mercy Hospital Southeast and has lived in Jackson most of her life. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Southeast Missouri State University in 2006 and a master’s degree in nursing from Maryville University in St. Louis to become a nurse practitioner in 2016.
“I’m excited to be back home with my family and an awesome community of people,” Baumhoer said. “It’s great to have an opportunity to bring my experience back to this area. Southeast is where I started my nursing career 20 years ago, and I’m looking forward to seeing some of the people I started my journey with.”
In her free time, Lindsey enjoys running, bike riding, reading and spending time with her 14-year-old son, who participates in high school soccer and basketball. She also has her dog, Nova, a 10-year-old boxer who she says is the true queen of their household.
