Just weeks after Children’s Mercy and Mercy announced plans to build a dedicated pediatric outpatient clinic, the project has already received an incredible boost of support. The families of Charlie and Mary Beth O’Reilly, David and Stacey O’Reilly, Larry and Anya O’Reilly and Rosalie O’Reilly Wooten have made a generous lead donation to secure the naming of the new facility and kickstart the project.
“When we heard about Mercy’s and Children’s Mercy’s effort to enhance pediatric care for kids across southwest Missouri, we knew we wanted to be involved and help make a generational change for kids in our community,” said Rosalie. "This clinic will make it easier for kids to access a range of specialists, and its design and functionality will be built around their needs. This is what makes all of Children’s Mercy clinics and hospitals so unique. They’re truly built for kids, and we can’t wait for that dedication and expertise to come to Springfield.”
Plans for the new pediatric clinic were announced Nov. 19, and work on the site is scheduled to begin this month. The new clinic will be located on Mercy’s south Springfield campus near its orthopedic hospital and new emergency department. The 40,000-square-foot facility will bring pediatric specialists and pediatric primary care under one roof.
The new clinic, which is scheduled to open in December 2026, is estimated to cost $30 million with $10 million coming from community support. “This donation from the O’Reilly family shows the lasting impact of community philanthropy,” said John Myers, president of Mercy Springfield Communities. “This is a dream-big kind of project, but it’s a dream that meets a growing need in our community. Every year, we are seeing more kids with complex medical needs who have to leave town for care. It’s time to make sure kids can get the care they need right here at home, and the O’Reilly’s generosity and leadership will be the foundation for making this dream a reality.”
As the lead donors, the O’Reilly’s will help name the new clinic, and Charlie, Larry, David and Rosalie will serve as honorary co-chairs of the campaign to bring the clinic to life. “Our family has a long history with Mercy that goes back to our dad and granddad, and philanthropy and supporting our community have always been a key part of our family’s values,” said Charlie O’Reilly. “We grew up watching our parents embrace the needs of this community, and it went beyond just showing financial support. Our parents led by example and donated their time, effort and leadership to causes they believed in. It’s an honor to continue their legacy and help Mercy and Children’s Mercy transform Springfield into a medical destination for kids who need care close to home.”
Alyea Alldredge, executive director of Mercy Health Foundation Springfield, said the impact of having the O’Reilly’s lead the fundraising effort is immeasurable. “Their naming gift alone speaks volumes to the O’Reilly’s dedication to this project and to our kids’ futures, so when they said they also wanted to serve as honorary co-chairs of the fundraising campaign, they have gone above and beyond. The O’Reilly family has built a legacy of defined vision, compassion and a willingness to step forward when it matters most. Because of them, children will receive exceptional care closer to home, and families will find comfort and hope in moments when they need it most. We could not be more grateful.”
To meet the $10 million fundraising goal, Mercy and Children’s Mercy’s two philanthropy teams are working hand-in-hand.
“The O’Reilly family’s generosity is helping us create something extraordinary for kids and families in southwest Missouri,” said Amy Fallon, president of regional operations at Children’s Mercy. “This new clinic will offer a true continuum of care–specialty and primary care together in a child-focused space, where families can access everything they need under one roof. It’s a powerful example of community and health care coming together for kids.”
