Becker’s Names Nicki Gamet to List of Chief Nursing Officers to Know

January 15, 2026

Nicki Gamet has only been chief nursing officer for Mercy Springfield Communities for eight months, but her list of accomplishments is growing. Recently, she was named to Becker’s annual list of CNO’s to Know.

Becker’s released its list this month, and Gamet was one of the 274 CNOs included, along with Stephanie Clements, who oversees nursing operations and strategy for the entire Mercy health system.

Mercy doctor's coat Nicki Gamet has built a 28-year career in nursing with Mercy. She was named chief nursing officer in 2025.

“It’s an honor to be on this list with Stephanie and so many other accomplished nursing leaders,” Gamet said. “I have an incredible team of nursing leaders, and I’m really proud of the work we’ve done to improve nursing retention and strengthen the already great culture within nursing at Mercy.”

Each year, Becker’s assembles its list of CNOs to know and highlights nursing leaders who are at the forefront of their profession and who create pathways for growth within their teams. Fostering a culture of shared leadership where nurses are empowered to grow professionally has been Gamet’s focus since she stepped into the role of CNO on May 1, 2025. While Gamet is still relatively new to her role, she’s been with Mercy for more than 27 years.

“I started off as a staff nurse,” she said. “I know how hard our team works, and I truly believe we have the best group of nurses you could ask for. It’s my job to make sure they have all the support and resources needed to care for our community, and part of that means making sure they have a path to pursue their professional goals within nursing.”

Gamet said she’s seen her nursing teams support each other and empower one another to lead and grow, and she’s excited to be part of that. “We already have a great workplace culture within nursing at Mercy, so now we’re able to dive deeper and really put succession planning into place so our nurses see a pathway to professional development. My nursing career at Mercy is almost in its third decade, and I’ve grown as a leader thanks to so many nurses who came before me and encouraged me. I want to do the same and create a culture where professional growth is easy to achieve.”
