On June 5, 2025, tragedy forever changed the lives of Sarah and Jeff Ice and Jason and Krysta McKinney and their children when their 21-year-old daughter, Reagan Lynn McKinney, was shot and killed. Reagan was pregnant, and the medical team at Mercy Hospital Lebanon performed an emergency cesarean section to try to save the life of Reagan’s unborn son, Silas. Despite their efforts, Silas passed away a few days later. Now, during the one-year anniversary month of their daughter and grandson’s devastating deaths, Reagan’s family has created a memorial scholarship in their honor.
“Reagan always wanted to help others,” said Reagan’s mom Sarah. “Straight out of high school, she started working to become a certified nurse assistant. Her ultimate goal was to be a mom and then a nurse. After losing Reagan and Silas in such a tragic and unexpected way, her family wanted to make sure that even though she wasn’t able to reach her goals, we would help others reach theirs. We had such amazing care at Mercy, and we couldn’t imagine partnering with anyone else. We pray her legacy lives on and that Reagan and Silas are always remembered.”
Reagan’s family worked with Mercy Health Foundation Lebanon to create the Reagan Lynn & Silas Memorial Scholarship, which provides financial support to those currently in entry-level healthcare positions who wish to pursue higher education or training to continue their career in healthcare. While the scholarship is distributed through Mercy Health Foundation, applications are open to anyone in the healthcare field in the Lebanon area.
