Lymphedema Therapy Services

Lymphedema occurs when the lymphatic system, which is responsible for draining excess fluid, is damaged and does not work properly as a result of cancer therapy. Significant swelling to the arm, leg or other body parts can occur due to extracellular fluid buildup. Lymphedema can be a chronic condition.

Lymphedema therapy involves manual therapy, compression bandaging, exercise and patient education to help control edema – a condition that can result from surgical removal of the lymph nodes, trauma, radiation or scarring.

Services are provided by licensed physical and occupational therapists certified in lymphedema.
