After a tornado destroyed Mercy’s hospital in Joplin, Mo., Mercy teamed up with McCune-Brooks Regional Hospital in Carthage to provide care for residents in both communities as well as the surrounding counties. On Jan. 1, 2012, Mercy assumed operations of the 25-bed Carthage hospital, now known as Mercy Hospital Carthage.

What Is Our Swing Bed Program?

Sometimes patients need additional care and recovery time before leaving the hospital and returning home. Mercy's swing bed program meets the needs of anyone recovering from surgery or illness who could benefit from extra attention. Our program offers a variety of medical services, such as various therapies, IV treatments and wound care to help people on their road to recovery.
