Cuyler Caldwell, M.D., graduated tops in his class – summa cum laude – from the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO). It could have easily been culinary school.
“My guilty pleasure is watching cooking shows,” said Dr. Caldwell, a family practice physician and newest member of the team at Mercy Edmond Signal Ridge. “If I hadn’t been a doctor, I’d probably have been a chef somewhere.”
A bona fide grill master, Dr. Caldwell makes his own marinade, barbeque sauce and dry rub. His cooking career, however, was put on the back burner when he chose tongue depressors over turkey basters.
Born in Amarillo, Texas, Dr. Caldwell spent most of his childhood in Enid where he captained the high school basketball team and excelled in science. After graduation, he landed in another “E” town – Edmond – earninga bachelor’s in biology from UCO.
Dr. Caldwell received his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and completed his residency at the Great Plains Family Medicine Residency Program in Oklahoma City.
“I chose family medicine because I wanted the responsibility of being the patient’s doctor,” Dr. Caldwell said. “Patients tend to see one physician as responsible for overseeing all their care as their doctor and I consider that a privilege and an honor. I am humbled to be called to serve as a physician.”
When time allows, Dr. Caldwell shoots hoops, hits the links and pursues his passion for medical mission work, both locally and abroad. He donates his services to several free clinics in the Oklahoma City area and has traveled numerous times to poverty stricken areas of Mexico to help the helpless.
Dr. Caldwell is accepting new patients at Mercy Edmond Signal Ridge, 416 W. 15th Street, Suite 200. Clinic hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. To schedule an appointment, call (405) 471-5800.
