Wearable defibrillator saves life

Dr. Amit Doshi, electrophysiologist with

Mercy Heart and Vascular Hospital, displays the LifeVest.

Mercy patient Jim Paulsen, 58, was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy, a condition that put him at increased risk for sudden cardiac arrest.

Dr. Amit Doshi, Mercy electrophysiologist/cardiologist, prescribed Paulsen a LifeVest – a wearable defibrillator that monitors the heart around the clock and records any abnormalities. That night, Paulsen experienced a sudden cardiac arrest after he went to sleep.  His LifeVest detected the life-threatening arrhythmia and delivered a treatment shock that saved his life.

Check out the full KTVI story here and hear interviews with Paulsen and his wife along with Dr. Doshi.
