Dr. Kurt Mehl has been a cardiologist in Fort Smith 20 years, and he still is amazed by the evolving nature of the field and the possibilities it brings.
“Cardiology was an exciting field when I began my career,” says Dr. Mehl. “But I never could have imagined the new technology that would be available to me today. Advancements in medicine throughout my career have kept my job exciting and gratifying.”
For as long as he can remember, Dr. Mehl always wanted to be a doctor. As he was exposed to several areas of medicine during his time as a general internist, he realized that cardiology was the path he wanted to take.
Dr. Mehl performed a two-year cardiology fellowship and began his career as cardiologist in San Diego, Calif. He then accepted a position in Fort Smith, the place that he, his wife and their three children have called home for the last 20 years.
He joined the Mercy team in September 2012 and is ready to continue his successful career. Dr. Mehl is excited to be a part of Mercy Fort Smith’s plans to build a healthier community and improve residents’ quality of life.
Mercy’s continuous commitment to improving patient care is something Dr. Mehl believes in wholeheartedly. He strives to make personal connections with his patients, putting an emphasis on listening to what they have to say.
“I believe that my patients’ experience shouldn’t be rushed by a fast-paced world,” says Dr. Mehl. “I want my patients to know that someone cares about them, and I think that Mercy is a place where that is possible.
“Mercy is a place that believes in personal care, and that is why I have found my home here,” he says.
