There’s a lot to celebrate in the Therapy Services department at Mercy St. Francis Hospital. The department hosted an open house Sunday to show off new equipment, staff and services.
“We’ve had some expansion,” said Terri Brandel, director of Therapy Services. Recent remodeling now allows for larger equipment, an aerobics area and room for more advanced treatments for stroke, vestibular and balance patients.
Therapists now provide lymphedema treatment, wound care, specific manual therapy/massage techniques and fall prevention therapy. They are also involved with local sports teams with on-the-field and sideline coverage.
“We’re also advancing our swing bed program for folks who aren’t quite ready to go home after a hospital stay,” said Brandel.
The expansion didn’t stop there; Brandel is among four new staff members, including physical therapists Karla Daffron and Kirt Burger, as well as occupational therapist Brie Reid-Pruitt.
