Fort Scott, Kan. - Mercy Hospital Auxiliary held its Annual Membership Meeting on Wednesday, January 15 at Mercy Hospital. During the meeting, committee chairpersons made reports of activities in 2013.
Membership Chairperson Shirley Palmer recognized both Alice Allen and Nancy Patterson for attaining 16,000 hours of volunteer service with the Mercy Auxiliary.
In 2013, a collective total of 14,718 volunteer hours were donated by 83 Mercy Auxiliary members.
Tracey Biles, Vice President of Mission and Director of Volunteer Services, shared, “There are three things needed to keep us healthy: diet, exercise and service. Service warms our heart; a health benefit gained by caring of others.”
Another committee recognized was the Care Bear Team, a team of women who sew hand-made teddy bears for newborns at Mercy Hospital.
The Auxiliary also funds nursing scholarships at Fort Scott Community College. The five recipients spoke briefly about how the financial assistance has enabled their pursuit of a career in the health care field.
The Mercy Hospital Auxiliary is a volunteer group that raises money to support the purchase of new equipment, supplies and upgrading of services for the patients through vending machine sales, Mercy Market Place gift shop sales, and other specialty sales. Auxiliary member’s also pay annual membership fees.
