October 25, 2022

Mercy welcomes a new otolaryngologist, often known as an ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist, to Ardmore. Dr. Edward Barns has more than 30 years of experience working with diseases of the head and neck.

“I was initially drawn to otolaryngology by the diversity of patients you see daily,” said Dr. Barns. “It’s in my nature to want to help people and cure them. I’m thrilled to introduce my experience and services to this community.”

Dr. Barns earned a bachelor’s in microbiology from the University of Kansas and a bachelor’s in pharmacy from the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy. He later earned a medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency at the University of Oklahoma in otolaryngology.

Three decades of medical practice has given Dr. Barns a passion for treating patients who suffer from chronic allergic rhinitis. He said, “I really focus on the need for correct usage and compliance with medications for those who struggle with this condition.”

Along with his general experience, Dr. Barns is excited to bring a tonsillectomy procedure to patients that lessens recovery time and reduces complications.

Dr. Barns has served as a faculty member of Oklahoma State University’s medical school and the VA Oklahoma City Healthcare System. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his 4-year-old grandson and playing golf, baseball and soccer.

Dr. Barns is now seeing patients Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon at Mercy Clinic Ear, Nose and Throat – Ardmore Suite 200
