Mercy Hospital Ada Earns A Grade for Safety

November 6, 2023

ADA, Okla. – Mercy Hospital Ada received an A grade for safe patient care in The Leapfrog Group’s Fall 2023 Hospital Safety Grade. This recognition distinguishes only 30% of hospitals across the country that earn the highest possible grade from the national nonprofit patient safety advocate group.

“This acknowledges what we already know very well – that Mercy Ada co-workers deliver the highest level of safe care to our community,” said Terence Farrell, president of Mercy Hospital Ada. “We hope this A grade reinforces and validates the trust our community places in us for their health care.”

Leapfrog assigns letter grades to hospitals across the country based on more than 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, and the processes in place to prevent harm.

Statewide, Mercy’s A grades represented a large portion of the total A grades received by all hospitals. In Arkansas, Mercy’s two A grades were among only six earned throughout the state. Missouri had a total of 13 A grades, five of which were Mercy hospitals. Oklahoma’s Mercy hospitals were two of the eight in the state to receive A grades. Both Mercy Hospital Ada and Mercy Hospital Ardmore received an A.

“Earning an A grade means Mercy made a true commitment to put patients first,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “We congratulate the leadership, board, clinicians, staff and volunteers who all had a role to play in this achievement.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program exclusively based on hospital prevention of medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day nationally. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually in the fall and spring.
