April 1, 2025

Five surgeons and two nurse practitioners are joining Mercy Southeast’s team, strengthening and expanding surgical needs for patients in Southeast Missouri and beyond.

Kevin Bartow, M.D., and Cape Girardeau Surgical Clinic’s Ray Silliman, M.D., will lead the transition to Mercy Southeast’s general surgery team. Also joining Mercy’s team are Major Burger, D.O.; Carson Cunningham, M.D.; Joseph McCadams, M.D.; April Ostendorf-Morris, nurse practitioner; and Stephanie Moll, nurse practitioner, all from the Cape Girardeau Surgical Clinic. They will enhance and grow Mercy’s surgery and gastroenterology teams in Southeast Missouri.

“We’re honored these talented and dedicated clinicians and surgeons chose to join Mercy, bringing their expertise and passion as we work together to fulfill our promise to provide high-quality health care at a lower cost to this region,” said Eric Ammons, president of Mercy Southeast Communities.

In addition to caring for patients at Mercy Southeast, the surgeons will also provide surgical treatment and care for patients at Mercy Stoddard in Dexter, Missouri.

“Returning to Cape Girardeau and this part of Missouri is an exciting opportunity, and I’m looking forward to contributing to Mercy’s vision in pioneering a new model of care for patients,” said Dr. Bartow.

The new surgeons are expected to begin seeing patients at Mercy Southeast this summer.

“We truly believe in Mercy’s mission of providing compassionate care and exceptional service, and we’re ready to get started,” said Dr. Silliman. “Mercy’s vast network of technology and resources with organizations like Microsoft and Mayo Clinic is something that will elevate the care we’ll be able to provide our patients.”
