CUBA, Mo. - Mercy and community leaders marked the official opening of the region’s newest clinic dedicated to addiction medicine with a ribbon cutting and blessing ceremony. The Mercy Substance Use Recovery Clinic is moving to 114 Downey Place in Cuba to serve more patients dealing with addiction through screening services and medication-assisted therapies.

The move was made possible with funding secured through Mercy Health Foundation, including a $30,000 grant from the Crawford County Opioid Fund Disbursement Board, which will cover one year of rent for the new standalone facility. Other aspects in the space, made possible thanks to Foundation donors, include safety features, furnishings and a children’s room, to ensure parents do not miss appointments due to childcare issues.
Tanis Bast, DNP, and her team see patients in Union and Sullivan, caring for nearly 500 patients each month. They plan to grow the program with the expansion in Cuba.
“The numbers help share the need, but the patient stories of overcoming struggles are proof of the life change we help facilitate,” Bast said. “Our team meets people where they are, no judgement and no conditions. We have open doors and open hearts to those who want recovery.”
Working in a family medicine practice, Bast began working in addiction medicine and saw the need. She slowly began investing more time with these patients and raised the idea of a focused clinic dedicated to substance use recovery.
Mercy provides medication-assisted treatment (MAT) with oral and injectable options to stabilize patients as they recover.
