Mercy Health Foundation Southeast’s Independence Day 5K, benefiting Mercy Children’s Wellness Fund, is hoping for its biggest year yet.
In honor of the date, the annual race will begin at 7:04 a.m., Friday, July 4, at Mercy Fitness Center – HealthPoint Jackson, 410 W. Main St., Jackson. The race has been a tradition for more than 25 years, and Mercy is aiming for more than 500 participants in this year’s events, which include:
- 5K Run: Runners are allowed to walk
- 5K Walk: Walkers must walk the entire course
- Firecracker 1-Mile: Walk or run just for fun (begins at 7:10 a.m.)
- Virtual Run/Walk: Register to run/walk wherever you choose

All race proceeds benefit Mercy Children’s Wellness Fund, which helps support the goal of improved child health, pregnancy outcomes and development for the well-being and self-sufficiency of low-income, first-time parents. To support parents, childcare will be available to participants on race day.
