OKLAHOMA CITY – Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City has earned the distinction of being the top-ranked neurological hospital in Oklahoma from two leading national publications.
Newsweek named Mercy to its annual list of America’s Best Hospitals for Specialized Care – Neurological Care Hospitals, and Money also put Mercy in its annual ranking of the nation’s Best Hospitals for Neurology. The recognition highlights Mercy’s commitment to delivering exceptional care for patients facing complex neurological conditions.
“Every second counts for stroke patients,” said Bennett Geister, president of Mercy Oklahoma City Communities. “With the fastest care, patients have a much better chance of getting back to their life before the stroke. Being on the forefront of lifesaving care is at the core of our mission.”
Comprehensive Stroke Center
Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City was the first in the state to be certified as a Comprehensive Stroke Center by The Joint Commission. Mercy has held the distinction since 2012, which requires it to offer:
- 24/7 availability of an acute stroke team
- 24/7 on-site neurosurgical services
- Dedicated neuro intensive care unit (ICU) beds for patients recovering from complex strokes
The immediate care provided by the always-on-site specialists can help prevent death and long-term consequences like loss of vision, speech and motion. Interventional radiologists, vascular surgeons, rehabilitation specialists and therapists round out the all-encompassing care team.
Mercy earned recertification as a Comprehensive Stroke Center this spring and has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval, the most comprehensive stroke certification offered. Mercy has also earned the American Stroke Association’s Heart-Check Mark for Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification.
