Two Mercy hospitals have done it again – earning one of the most demanding recognitions for patient safety and quality. Mercy Hospital Springfield in Springfield, Missouri, and Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City, Missouri, were both named a 2025 Leapfrog Top Hospital. Mercy Springfield was named a Top Teaching Hospital, and Mercy Jefferson was named a Top General Hospital.
Earning a Leapfrog Top Hospital designation puts Mercy in an elite group. Only 156 hospitals – including three in Missouri – made the list put out annually by The Leapfrog Group, which is a nonprofit watchdog that serves as a voice for health care consumers. This is the third time Mercy Hospital Springfield has earned the recognition.
“Achieving a Top Teaching Hospital status speaks volumes about our doctors and nurses who dedicate their time to teach the next generation of health care professionals,” said Sadaf Sohrab, chief medical officer for Mercy Springfield Communities. “This also says a lot about the amazing academic leaders we have in our community. Because of their vision and investment in their students’ futures, we are able to link arms with them and ensure students have careers in health care in Springfield. It makes me really proud to be part of Mercy and part of this community’s commitment to training the next generation of health care professionals.”
Each year, The Leapfrog Group evaluates almost 2,400 hospitals for this honor and recognizes the highest-performing on its Leapfrog Hospital Survey with the top hospital award. To earn the prestigious status of top hospital, winners must demonstrate that they have systems in place to prevent medication errors, lower infection rates and achieve higher quality maternity care.
Leapfrog is the nation’s premier advocate of transparency in health care, and its full top hospital methodology is publicly available, along with a complete list of the 2025 Top Hospitals.
