Mercy Arkansas Hospitals Receive Awards for Stroke Patient Care

January 13, 2026

Mercy Arkansas hospitals and services received 16 awards from the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) for outstanding performance in stroke patient care during July 2024 through June 2025. The most recent awards from ADH recognize 48 hospitals, 38 ambulance services, three regional teams and three individuals.

Awards are based on key performance measures from the Arkansas Stroke Registry, including defect-free stroke care, stroke band documentation, and door-to-CT times, as well as EMS pre-notification practices that improve patient outcomes statewide.

“Arkansas’s health care professionals continue to demonstrate exceptional dedication to improving stroke care,” said Bala Simon, MD, DrPH, deputy chief medical officer and state chronic disease director at the Arkansas Department of Health. “Their teamwork, commitment to quality and focus on timely, evidence-based care are helping save lives and strengthen outcomes for patients across the state.”

The three award classes are based on the level of adherence including:

•  Diamond: 95%+

•  Ruby: 90%-94.99%

•  Pearl: 85%-89.99%

Defect-free care is an aggregated metric based on the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association (AHA/ASA) Coverdell metrics to ensure stroke patients receive appropriate care. Stroke bands allow for improved data collection for quality improvement and faster door to CT times improve the likelihood of better patient outcomes. To qualify for this award, a hospital must be designated through ADH or a national accreditation body.
