Volunteers with Developmental Disabilities

Developmental Disabilities Volunteer Opportunities

Mercy Hospital St. Louis has a volunteer program for those ages 18 and above who have a developmental disability. This program offers volunteer opportunities with job coaching provided. Volunteers are given options of volunteer jobs that match their interests and skill levels. Opportunities are available in the following departments:

  • Nutrition department
  • Housekeeping department
  • Decontamination department
  • Sterilization department
  • Clerical departments
  • GI lab

Volunteer Program Benefits

This program benefits participant who:

  • Would like to explore available job opportunities in a health care setting
  • Are looking to build their references lists for applications and resumes
  • Are not job seeking, and just want to volunteer
  • Are looking for summer volunteer activities
  • Are looking for year- round volunteering
  • Would like to volunteer to increase job experiences
  • Would like to volunteer while job seeking

Additionally, volunteers receive:

  • Volunteer hours which look great on applications and resumes
  • A $5 meal ticket each time participant volunteers
  • References that can be used with future job applications
  • 1:1 job coaching with fading
  • Input given to agencies and participant regarding performance of volunteer

Volunteer Eligibility

To be eligible for this program, participants must:

  • Have a developmental disability identified before the age of 22
  • Be active with the St. Louis County Regional Center
  • Live in St. Louis County
  • Be non-Medicaid waivered
  • Be 18 years or older

  • Attend an interview to learn about our program
  • Go to corporate health for a physical, PPD shots and drug screening
  • Allow for a background screening to be completed
