Mercy Orthopedic Hospital made Becker’s list of 100 hospitals and health systems with exceptional orthopedic programs, recognizing Mercy’s leadership in advancing orthopedic care.
“Our orthopedic program is truly one of this region’s best-kept secrets,” said John Myers, president of Mercy Springfield Communities. “Because we have such a deep well of fellowship trained providers and are constantly at the forefront of advances in care, patients from all across the country are traveling to Springfield and trusting us with their orthopedic care.”
Because Mercy Orthopedic Hospital is a medical destination, several major national employers including Walmart send employees to Mercy for treatment. Mercy Orthopedic Hospital is a nationally recognized center of excellence in total hip, knee and spine surgery and cares for 70,000 patients annually. It also holds an advanced certification for hip and knee surgery through the Joint Commission.
The hospital was an early adopter of cutting-edge robotic and navigation-assisted surgery technology, with outcomes tracked and research supported by a partnership with Johnson & Johnson. Mercy’s orthopedic program also partners with local universities and athletic programs to provide musculoskeletal care and athletic training to student-athletes as well as the professional athletes from the Springfield Cardinals Minor League Baseball Team.
Mercy Orthopedic Hospital was one of two programs from Missouri to make Becker’s list along with the University of Missouri Health Care in Columbia. Becker’s recently announced its 2025 list of great orthopedic programs and noted the programs on this year’s list “stand at the forefront of innovation, pioneering minimally invasive procedures, conducting groundbreaking research and leading clinical trials that are transforming patient outcomes.”
To make the list, the Becker’s editorial team reviewed nominations and evaluated rankings and honors from respected organizations such as U.S. News & World Report, Newsweek and Healthgrades.
