Mercy Hospital Washington Named A Great Place to Work

Mercy Hospital Washington is a "Top Workplace"

Washington, Mo. – The St. Louis Post-Dispatch recognized Mercy Hospital Washington for what hospital co-workers have known for a long time – it’s a great place to work.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch published its 2013 Top Workplaces issue June 23. Mercy Hospital Washington ranked No. 12 in the “Top Large Companies” category. The list and related stories also were posted on the paper’s website.

Co-workers put Mercy Hospital Washington on this list based on how they responded to survey questions, and their answers were extremely favorable.

“Making this list makes us feel blessed and proud. I’m glad our co-workers are happy at work,” said Terri McLain, president of Mercy Hospital Washington. “Their happiness and dedication radiates to the care and compassion they extend to our patients, visitors and each other. Serving others is a tradition we’re proud to carry on.”

Connie Stelzer, RN, is a long-time Mercy co-worker and manager of the Mercy Cancer Center. She was one of the many co-workers who took the survey leading to the ranking.  “Mercy is more than just a place to work, it’s a ministry, and what we do here is bigger than ourselves,” Stelzer said. “My co-workers and I are grateful and blessed to be part of a spiritual heritage that makes a difference in peoples’ lives.”

WorkplaceDynamics, which works with the Post Dispatch on its Top Workplaces issue, launched the survey process by inviting St. Louis area organizations to give employees confidential surveys that gauge how they feel about their workplaces. The Post-Dispatch also invited readers to nominate their local employers. This year, 144 companies and nonprofit organizations agreed to participate in the survey.

The companies that made the list have themselves and their co-workers to thank. Workers completed confidential surveys with questions ranging from pay to flexible scheduling to career advancement and management’s openness to new ideas. Companies that ranked in the final, published list had a large number of employees who gave their employers complimentary survey results.

Mercy Hospital Washington serves more than 180,000 residents in all or parts of Franklin, Gasconade, Crawford, St. Charles, St. Louis and Warren counties.
