Breastfeeding Resources in the St. Louis Area
Mercy offers outpatient lactation counselors who can help you if you are having any issues with breastfeeding once you go home with your newborn. Lactation counseling appointments are covered by most health insurance plans. Please call our Breastfeeding Information Line at 314-251-6781 to schedule your appointment.
Breastfeeding Classes
Breastfeeding Basics: A Successful Start
- This two-and-a-half-hour prenatal class is packed with valuable information and strategies for a successful start to breastfeeding in the first few days and weeks of your baby’s life.
- Partners attend this class with the expectant mother.
- Register online or call 314-961-2229. The fee is $25 per couple.
Breastfeeding Support Groups
Breastfeeding with Confidence Group
These informal groups of nursing mothers with their babies is led by a registered nurse with specialized training in lactation support. Choose from one of three convenient locations:
- Mercy Hospital St. Louis, Classroom #1, 6th floor - every Wednesday, 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
- Mercy Old Tesson Building, 12348 Old Tesson Road, 2nd floor Community Room - every Tuesday, 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
- Mercy Kids - Mid Rivers, 4525 Mid Rivers Mall Drive, Cottleville in the Mercy Kids Community Room - every Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
LaLeche League Breastfeeding Support Groups at Mercy
- Mercy Hospital St. Louis, Mercy Doctors Building, Tower A in the Outpatient Lab Waiting Room - second Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
- Mercy Old Tesson Building, 12348 Old Tesson Ferry Road, 2nd floor in the Community Room – third Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
