Breast health at Mercy is a priority. Our specialists use the latest imaging technology to detect and evaluate breast health. We offer various breast imaging tests including mammograms, 3D mammography, MRIs, ultrasounds and ductograms. There are roughly three million breast cancer survivors in the U.S., and that number continues to grow thanks to advances in early detection and treatments.

We hope it never happens, but should a woman need cancer care, Mercy’s board-certified gynecologic cancer specialists offer the most advanced treatment options for cervical cancer, ovarian cancer and uterine cancer, along with compassionate care every step of the way.

Questions to Ask When Choosing an OBGYN

Finding the right OBGYN means finding a partner to care for you and your child on the way. The best OBGYN will help you feel comfortable being pregnant and will provide clear communication throughout your pregnancy. When choosing an OBGYN, be sure to ask yourself the following:

  • How comfortable do you feel with the doctor?
  • Do you find it easy to ask questions of the doctor?
  • Does the doctor explain things clearly and completely?
  • Does the doctor seem interested in you personally?
  • Does the doctor seem like someone who will respect your wishes?

Expect to see your OBGYN on a regular basis during pregnancy. Use this time to find out your physician’s thoughts about issues that are important to you, such as the routine use of interventions like IVs, continuous electronic fetal monitoring, and episiotomies.

What’s the Difference Between an OBGYN and a GYN?

Gynecologists (GYN) offer preventive reproductive health care and treat diseases, while obstetricians/gynecologists (OB/GYN) deliver babies and care for mother and baby after the delivery.

Both OBGYNs and GYNs are gynecologists and can provide diagnosis and treatment for conditions of the female reproductive and urinary systems, including the uterus, vagina, ovaries and cervix. However, OBGYNS also provide personalized treatment for women in every stage of pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period.
