Critical Care Access

Mercy Hospital St. Louis provides critical care access for St. Louis County, St. Charles County, and the surrounding areas through its Emergency Department, staffed by board-certified emergency physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and nursing staff. Emergency Department physicians provide oversight for several paramedic districts which bring critically injured and ill patients to the hospital by ambulance and helicopter.

Mercy Hospital St. Louis is a Level I Trauma Center – the only one in St. Louis County. Level I (comprehensive service) Trauma Centers meet American College of Surgeons (ACS) criteria for emergency departments and comprehensive critical care provided in intensive care units (ICUs) in the hospital. It is the highest level awarded to hospitals and trauma centers for the care they provide and the number of patients they treat. These services include emergency medicine, trauma surgery, critical care, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, anesthesiology and radiology.
